Snoopy, the beagle with the biggest imagination, was getting ready for bed. He had spent the whole day playing with his best friend, Woodstock, a tiny, cheerful bird.
Woodstock, tired from all their games of hide-and-seek amongst the flowerpots, was already fast asleep on Snoopy's red doghouse roof. Snoopy yawned a big, sleepy yawn.
But Snoopy couldn't sleep! He was too excited about the amazing dream he was sure he would have. He tossed and turned, his fluffy tail thumping softly against the doghouse floor.
Suddenly, he heard a little whimper. It was Sally, his little human sister, crying softly in her room. Snoopy knew exactly what to do.
He quietly padded over to Sally's room, his little black nose twitching. He found Sally sitting up in bed, her eyes wide with tears. 'I can't sleep,' she whispered.
'My teddy bear, Patches, has fallen behind the dresser,' she sobbed, pointing towards a tall, dark piece of furniture.
Snoopy, being the brave and helpful beagle he was, wagged his tail and carefully investigated. He sniffed and snuffled, then, with a clever wiggle, he managed to nudge Patches out from behind the dresser.
Sally's face lit up! She hugged Snoopy tightly. 'Thank you, Snoopy,' she whispered. 'You're the best!'
Feeling warm and fuzzy inside, Snoopy returned to his doghouse. This time, tiredness enveloped him. He snuggled into his soft blanket and drifted off into a wonderful, peaceful sleep, dreaming of flying through the clouds with Woodstock.
He dreamt of helping others, and the comforting feeling of making Sally happy. He slept soundly all night long, knowing that kindness and friendship were the best things to have before sleep.
The next morning, Snoopy woke up feeling refreshed and ready for another day of fun with Woodstock. He knew that helping others and being kind always led to the sweetest dreams.
