As the big yellow sun began to dip below the tall green trees, Koko the gentle gorilla knew it was almost time for bed. The busy jungle sounds started to get quiet. The chattering monkeys settled down, and the noisy birds tucked their heads under their wings. A soft, warm quiet began to spread over the leaves.
Koko stretched his long arms and yawned a big, quiet yawn. He saw a tiny, tired firefly, named Pip, blinking very slowly near a big fern leaf. Pip looked like he was ready for his tiny firefly bed, but the spot wasn't very cozy yet.
Koko knew just what to do. With his big, strong hands, Koko was always very careful and gentle. He looked around for the softest, biggest leaf he could find. He found one shaped like a little boat and gently placed it near Pip's favorite resting spot. Pip blinked his light a little brighter, like a small 'thank you!', and snuggled onto the soft leaf boat. Koko smiled, happy he could be gentle and kind.
Now, it was Koko's turn to get ready for sleepy time. He liked to sleep up high in his favorite sturdy tree. Climbing slowly and carefully, Koko made his way up to his special branch. It was nice and quiet up there, with a lovely view of the starry sky peeking through the leaves.
Koko needed a soft bed, too! He began to gather the biggest, comfiest leaves from around his branch. He piled them up carefully, patting them down just right. He wanted his bed to be extra soft and warm for sleeping.
When his leafy nest was ready, Koko climbed in. Ahh, it felt so soft! He curled up, feeling the gentle night air on his fur. He listened to the quiet hum of the jungle as it settled down for the night. He felt safe and snug in his cozy bed high in the tree.
Koko closed his big eyes. He took a slow, deep breath in, and let it out slowly. He felt his body relax, from his big gorilla toes all the way up to his head. The peaceful feeling wrapped around him like a warm blanket.
Soon, Koko the gentle gorilla was fast asleep in his leafy bed, dreaming sweet, quiet dreams of soft leaves and kind friends. The jungle slept peacefully all around him. Goodnight, Koko. Goodnight, little one, time to sleep.
