Barnaby Bear was getting ready for bed. He yawned a big, sleepy yawn and snuggled into his cozy blue blanket. Mama Bear smiled. “It’s time to say goodnight, Barnaby,” she whispered. Barnaby loved saying goodnight. It made him feel calm and peaceful.
First, Barnaby said goodnight to the bright red balloon floating near his bed. “Goodnight, balloon,” he mumbled, watching it bob gently. Then, he looked at the picture of the fluffy white sheep jumping over the fence. “Goodnight, sheep,” he said, imagining all the sleepy sheep dreaming sweet dreams.
He glanced at his favorite little wooden train, chugging along on an imaginary track. “Goodnight, train,” Barnaby whispered. He remembered all the fun adventures they’d had together that day, building tunnels and going on pretend journeys. He felt grateful for his train.
Next, Barnaby said goodnight to the cozy green chair where Papa Bear read him stories. “Goodnight, chair,” he said, remembering the funny voices Papa Bear used for all the characters. He felt warm and happy thinking about story time.
He looked out the window at the twinkling stars beginning to appear in the dark blue sky. “Goodnight, stars,” he whispered. “Goodnight, moon.” The moon was a soft, gentle glow, watching over everything. Barnaby felt peaceful knowing the moon was there.
Barnaby then noticed his little collection of smooth, colorful stones on his windowsill. He’d gathered them on a walk with Mama Bear. “Goodnight, stones,” he said, remembering how each one felt cool and smooth in his paw. He appreciated their simple beauty.
Finally, Barnaby snuggled close to Mama Bear. “Goodnight, Mama,” he whispered. Mama Bear kissed his forehead. “Goodnight, my sweet Barnaby,” she replied. “Close your eyes and think of all the wonderful things you saw today.”
Barnaby closed his eyes, remembering the balloon, the sheep, the train, the chair, the stars, the moon, and the stones. He felt thankful for everything. He took a deep breath and drifted off to sleep, dreaming sweet dreams under the watchful eye of the goodnight moon.
