The Elusive Eel and the Sparkling Stream

« Back to Topic

3 min read ・ Age 6

Deep within a sparkling stream, lived a little eel named Ripple. Ripple wasn't like the other eels. He dreamed of catching the sunbeams shimmering on the water's surface, a feat none of the older eels had ever accomplished.

Every morning, Ripple would rush to the shallows, eager to capture the elusive sunbeams. But they always slipped away, teasing him with their golden sparkle. The other eels, seasoned with years of experience, simply watched Ripple, shaking their heads and murmuring about his impatience.

One day, a wise old turtle, known for his calm demeanor, approached Ripple. "Why such haste, little one?" he asked gently.

Ripple explained his desire to catch the sunbeams, his voice filled with frustration. The turtle smiled. "Sunbeams are like fleeting dreams, Ripple," he said. "They are meant to be enjoyed, not chased."

The turtle continued, "Patience is a powerful thing, Ripple. It allows you to appreciate the beauty around you, even when it seems just out of reach." Ripple listened intently, feeling a bit ashamed of his frantic rushing.

The next morning, Ripple tried something new. He sat quietly by the stream's edge, watching the sun rise. He observed the playful dance of water droplets, the delicate colors of the blossoming flowers along the bank. He felt a peace he hadn't felt before.

As the sun climbed higher, the shimmering light danced on the water's surface. Instead of rushing, Ripple simply allowed the sunbeams to caress his body. He felt a joy that came from observation, not from pursuit.

He saw the beauty in the slow, gentle movement of the water, the way the sunlight illuminated the river stones. He saw the way the water shimmered and sparkled in the sun. He saw everything. It was far more beautiful than he imagined, and filled with wonder.

The other eels, seeing Ripple's newfound calm and appreciation, gradually started to slow down. They too began to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings. They spent more time gazing at the ripples of the water, listening to the chirping of birds. They saw the beauty in a way they never had before.

Ripple learned that true joy wasn't found in catching the sunbeams, but in appreciating the natural world around him. He learned that patience, rather than hasty pursuit, opened up new doors to wonder and beauty. And from that day on, Ripple, and the other eels, lived in a new harmony with their surroundings.
