Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. They grew bigger and bigger, and soon it was time for them to build their own homes. The first little pig was very playful and wanted to finish quickly. He gathered straw and built a house very, very fast. "There!" he squealed. "Now I can play all day!"
The second little pig wasn't quite as quick to play. He decided sticks would be a little stronger. He gathered sticks and built a house, but he still wanted to have plenty of time for games. It was faster than building with bricks, but not as fast as straw! He finished and joined his brother for a little fun.
The third little pig was the most thoughtful. He knew a strong house was very important. He decided to build his house with bricks. It took a long, long time! He worked and worked, carefully stacking each brick. His brothers laughed, saying he was too slow.
Soon, a big, bad wolf came along. He huffed and he puffed at the straw house, and WHOOSH! It blew down! The first little pig ran to his brother’s house made of sticks. The wolf followed and huffed and he puffed at the stick house, and CRASH! It blew down too!
The two little pigs ran as fast as they could to their brother’s brick house. The wolf huffed and he puffed and he huffed and he puffed, but the brick house didn’t budge! It was strong and sturdy because the third little pig had worked so hard and planned carefully.
The wolf tried to climb down the chimney, but the clever third little pig had a pot of water boiling on the stove! The wolf fell right in with a splash! He ran away, and the three little pigs were safe and warm in their brick house.
From that day on, the three little pigs lived happily together. They learned that working hard and planning ahead is always the best way to build something strong and safe. And they always made time for playing together, too! Now close your eyes, little one, and dream sweet dreams of cozy homes and happy pigs.
