Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. Oink! Oink! Oink! They were ready to build their own houses in the big, wide world. The first little pig was very excited and wanted to play right away. He decided to build his house out of soft, golden straw. It was very fast to build, and soon he was ready to play.
The second little pig thought for just a little bit longer. He decided to build his house out of little sticks. He gathered sticks and put them together. This took a little more time than the straw house, but he was still ready to play quite quickly. His little stick house looked nice and tidy.
The third little pig thought carefully. He knew that building a house took time, but he wanted a very strong one. He decided to build his house out of sturdy, red bricks. Gathering the bricks and putting them together took a long, long time. Sweat dripped from his little snout, but he kept working until his brick house was finished. It looked very strong and safe.
One day, a wolf came near the houses. He wasn't a very kind wolf. He saw the first little pig in his straw house. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in!" called the wolf. The little pig said, "Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin!" So the wolf said, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!"
And he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew! The straw house wobbled and then gently fell down, *swish!* The first little pig squealed and ran as fast as his little legs could carry him to the second little pig's house made of sticks. They both hid inside, their hearts going thump-thump-thump.
The wolf came to the stick house. "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in!" he called. The pigs inside said, "Not by the hair on our chinny chin chins!" So the wolf said, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!"
And he huffed, and he puffed, and he blew! The stick house wobbled and then gently fell down, *clatter!* The two little pigs squealed and ran as fast as their little legs could carry them to the third little pig's strong house made of bricks. They were so happy to see their brother's sturdy house.
The wolf came to the brick house. He was a little tired from all that blowing. "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in!" he called, but not so loudly this time. The three little pigs inside called back, "Not by the hair on our chinny chin chins!" So the wolf said, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!"
And he huffed, and he puffed, and he huffed, and he puffed, but the brick house didn't wobble even a tiny bit! It stood strong and firm. The wolf blew and blew until he was completely out of breath. His cheeks puffed up, and then they got very floppy. He was too tired to huff and puff anymore.
The wolf sighed a big, tired sigh and just walked away to find somewhere quiet to rest. The three little pigs were safe and cozy inside the strong brick house. They hugged their wise brother. They learned that taking the time to build something strong is a very good idea, and a cozy, safe house is the best place to be when it's time for bed.
