Leo the lion cub didn't *love* bedtime. It wasn't that he was scared of the dark, he just wished it wasn't… so many steps! Brush teeth, put on pajamas, read a book, say goodnight to toys. It felt like a long quest!
One night, Mama Lion had an idea. “Leo,” she said with a twinkle in her eye, “Tonight, bedtime is a quest! Each step you complete earns you a star. And when you have three stars, you get a very special reward!”
Leo’s ears perked up. A quest! He loved quests. “What kind of reward?” he asked excitedly.
Mama Lion smiled. “That’s a secret! But I promise, it’s something wonderful.”
“First task, brave knight!” Mama Lion announced. “Brush your teeth to sparkle like the stars!” Leo zoomed to the bathroom and brushed and brushed, making sure every tooth was shiny. *Star one!* He stuck a sparkly star sticker on his pajama top.
“Next, the Pajama Power-Up!” Mama Lion continued. Leo quickly wriggled into his cozy blue pajamas. *Star two!* Another sparkly star joined the first.
Then came the trickiest part: saying goodnight to all his toys. Barnaby Bear, Penelope Penguin, and Reginald Rabbit all needed a special goodnight hug and a whispered “Sweet dreams.” It took patience, but Leo did it! *Star three!*
Leo bounced up and down. “I did it! I completed the quest! What’s my reward?”
Mama Lion pulled out a small, beautifully decorated box. Inside wasn’t a toy, or a treat, but a hand-drawn picture of Leo and Mama Lion, snuggled together under a starry sky.
“This is a reminder,” Mama Lion explained, “that the best reward of all is spending time together, and knowing you’ve done your best. And now, my brave quest-completer, it’s time for a bedtime story.”
Leo snuggled close to his mama, feeling warm and happy. He realized the quest hadn’t been about the reward at all. It had been about being responsible, being kind to his toys, and spending precious time with his mama. And that was the most magical reward of all. He closed his eyes, ready for sweet dreams, knowing that even bedtime could be an adventure.
