Once upon a time, in a land of tall ferns and sleepy volcanoes, lived a very big dinosaur named Rory. Rory was a Brontosaurus, which meant he had a long neck and a very kind heart. Even though he was huge, Rory moved slowly and gently, always careful not to step on the tiny, colourful flowers that grew near his favourite sleeping spot.
One evening, as the sky turned soft shades of orange and pink, Rory was getting ready to settle down. He stretched his long neck up to nibble a last tasty leaf from a tall tree. Just as he was feeling quite full and sleepy, he heard a small, quiet sound – a little sniffle, like someone was sad.
Rory lowered his head slowly and looked around with his big, gentle eyes. Peeking out from behind a large fern was a small dinosaur, much smaller than Rory. It looked lost and a little scared, with tears glistening in its big, round eyes.
"Hello there," rumbled Rory, his voice soft like a warm breeze. "Why are you sad, little one? Are you lost?" The little dinosaur nodded shyly. "I can't find my mama and papa," it whispered, its lower lip trembling. Rory felt a warm, kind feeling in his big chest. He knew just how important mamas and papas are, especially when it's getting dark.
"Don't you worry," said Rory, offering a comforting smile. "I can help you. We'll look for them together. What do your mama and papa look like?" The little dinosaur described its family, and Rory listened carefully, picturing them in his mind. "Alright," said Rory. "Let's start walking this way. We'll find them."
They began to walk, Rory taking very slow, gentle steps so the little dinosaur could keep up. They passed by a friendly Triceratops munching on leaves, and a helpful Pterodactyl perched on a rock. Rory asked them if they had seen a family of little dinosaurs, and his friends kindly pointed in the direction they thought they might be.
With each step, the little dinosaur felt a little less scared, walking close to Rory's big, warm leg. Rory told gentle stories about the stars that would soon appear and the moon that would watch over them. He showed the little one how the fireflies were starting to twinkle like tiny flying lanterns, making the path a little brighter.
Soon, in the distance, they saw a group of dinosaurs that matched the little one's description. "Mama! Papa!" the little dinosaur cried, running as fast as its short legs could carry it. The grown-up dinosaurs rushed forward, so happy to see their lost little one! They hugged the baby tightly and then turned to Rory.
"Oh, thank you, Rory!" said the mama dinosaur gratefully. "You were so kind to help our little one find its way home." Rory dipped his head gently. "It was my pleasure," he rumbled. Seeing the happy family back together made Rory feel warm and peaceful inside. He said goodnight and began his walk back to his own sleeping spot.
As Rory settled down amongst the ferns, the stars were bright and the moon was high. He closed his big eyes, feeling happy and tired. Helping others felt like the nicest thing in the world. With a soft sigh, Rory drifted off to sleep, dreaming sweet dreams of gentle breezes and friendly faces, knowing he had helped make the world a little bit better before bedtime.
