Lily loved winter, but her little hands got very cold! That’s why Grandma knitted her the warmest, fluffiest mittens, bright red with little white snowflakes. Lily put them on every time she went outside to play.
One snowy morning, Lily went to build a snowman. As she rolled a big snowball, she heard tiny ‘meows!’ She looked around and saw three little kittens huddled under a bush, shivering. They were all different colors – one was orange, one was grey, and one was white with black spots.
“Oh, you poor little things!” Lily said. She knew just what to do. She carefully took off one of her warm red mittens. It was so big, all three kittens could snuggle inside! They purred and purred, happy to be warm.
Lily continued to roll her snowball, taking turns letting the kittens warm up in her mitten. She realized building a snowman was fun, but helping her new friends felt even better. She found a small, empty box and lined it with soft snow to make a cozy shelter for them.
Soon, a friendly neighbor, Mr. Peterson, came by. He was looking for his kittens! He explained they had wandered off while he was bringing in wood. Lily was so happy to reunite the kittens with Mr. Peterson.
Mr. Peterson thanked Lily with a warm hug. He said, “You are a very kind girl to take care of my little ones.” He even gave Lily a small, sparkly snowflake ornament for her snowman!
Lily finished building her snowman, adding the sparkly snowflake. She put her mittens back on, feeling warm and happy. She learned that even on the coldest days, a little kindness can make everything brighter. And sharing warmth with others is the best feeling of all.
As the sun began to set, Lily went inside, snuggled with her Grandma, and dreamed of playful kittens and snowy adventures. She knew her warm mittens weren’t just for keeping her hands cozy, but for spreading kindness too. Now close your eyes, little one, and dream sweet dreams.
