Little Lamb was a fluffy, white cloud with legs. She loved to play in the green meadow with her mama and all her friends. But tonight, Little Lamb felt a tiny bit scared. The shadows looked long, and the wind whispered secrets she couldn't understand.
“Mama,” she bleated softly, “I don’t want to go to sleep. What if there are scary things in the dark?” Mama Lamb nuzzled her close. “The dark isn’t scary, Little Lamb. It’s just quiet, and it lets everyone rest. And you are very brave.”
Just then, Barnaby Bear ambled by, looking a little sad. “I lost my favorite bluebell,” he mumbled. Little Lamb, even though she was feeling scared herself, thought about Barnaby. “Maybe we can find it together!” she offered.
They searched and searched, looking under bushes and behind big rocks. It was getting darker, but Little Lamb remembered Mama’s words about being brave. She kept looking, and Barnaby kept looking, and finally… there it was! A bright bluebell, tucked under a fern.
Barnaby Bear was so happy! He gave Little Lamb a big hug. “You’re a very kind and brave lamb,” he said. “Thank you for helping me.” Little Lamb felt a warm glow inside. Helping Barnaby had made her own worries feel much smaller.
As they walked back to their families, Little Lamb noticed the stars twinkling in the sky. They didn’t seem scary anymore, just beautiful and peaceful. She realized that even when things feel a little bit frightening, having a friend and being kind can make everything better.
Mama Lamb was waiting with a warm cup of chamomile tea (lambs love chamomile tea!). Little Lamb snuggled close, feeling safe and loved. She closed her eyes, remembering Barnaby’s smile and the twinkling stars.
“Goodnight, Mama,” she whispered. “I’m not scared anymore.” Mama Lamb kissed her forehead. “Sleep tight, my little lamb. Sweet dreams.” And Little Lamb drifted off to sleep, knowing that even in the quiet dark, she was brave, loved, and had a wonderful friend.
