Pip was a little guinea pig with very big ears. Tonight was Pip’s first night sleeping in a new cage. His old cage was small and cozy, but his human, Lily, said he needed more room to wheek and explore! Pip wasn’t so sure. It felt…big. And a little bit scary.
He peeked out from under the hay. Everything looked different! He missed his old, familiar corner. “What if I get lost?” he squeaked to himself. “What if a shadow monster comes?” Pip started to tremble. He wished he hadn’t left his cozy corner.
Suddenly, he heard a tiny voice. “Hello?” It was Hazel, Lily’s hamster, looking down from her exercise wheel. “It *looks* big, doesn’t it?” Hazel said with a friendly wiggle of her nose. “But it’s also full of adventures! And Lily made sure it’s extra comfy for you.”
Pip looked around. Hazel was right! Lily had filled the cage with soft hay, a yummy carrot, and a little house made of wood. He cautiously nibbled the carrot. It was the crunchiest, sweetest carrot he’d ever tasted!
He slowly explored, wheeking softly. He discovered a tunnel to hide in and a little platform to sit on. He even found a cozy spot near a fluffy blanket. “It’s…not so bad,” Pip admitted. “It’s actually quite nice!”
Hazel smiled. “See? Sometimes new things just need a little exploring. And remember, Lily loves you very much, and she wants you to be happy.” Pip felt a warm feeling in his chest. He *was* happy. He had a comfy cage, a tasty carrot, and a friendly neighbor.
Pip snuggled into the hay, feeling safe and warm. He closed his eyes and whispered, “I am a brave guinea pig. I can explore new things.” He drifted off to sleep, dreaming of wheeking adventures and crunchy carrots. He knew, even in a new place, his home was wherever Lily was, and that made everything alright.
Lily peeked in to check on Pip. She smiled when she saw him sleeping soundly. “Sweet dreams, little Pip,” she whispered. And Pip, the brave little guinea pig, slept peacefully through the night.
