Luna was a little firefly, but she had a big problem. She couldn’t glow! All the other fireflies in Glittering Grove sparkled and shone, lighting up the night with their beautiful, green light. Luna tried and tried, wiggling her bottom and thinking happy thoughts, but nothing happened. She felt very sad and hid amongst the leaves.
Old Man Tiber, a wise beetle with spectacles perched on his nose, noticed Luna’s sadness. He slowly crawled over to her. “What troubles you, little one?” he asked kindly. Luna explained about her missing glow. Old Man Tiber listened patiently, then smiled. “Your glow isn’t something you *make*, Luna. It’s something you *are*.”
Luna tilted her head. “But… how?” Old Man Tiber pointed with a leg towards a group of glow-worms struggling to roll a large dewdrop up a blade of grass. “See those glow-worms? They need help. Sometimes, the brightest light comes from helping others.”
Luna, though still feeling unsure, flew over to the glow-worms. She used her tiny legs to push alongside them, and together, they rolled the dewdrop to the top of the grass. The glow-worms cheered, their little lights blinking with gratitude. As Luna helped, she felt a warm feeling inside.
Suddenly, a tiny spark flickered at the end of her abdomen! It wasn’t a bright glow yet, but it was *something*. Luna was overjoyed! She helped the glow-worms collect more dewdrops, and with each act of kindness, her light grew stronger and brighter.
She then noticed a little lost moth, fluttering around and looking scared. Luna gently guided the moth back to its mama, and with that, her glow became a beautiful, steady green. It wasn’t the biggest glow in Glittering Grove, but it was *her* glow, and it was perfect.
Old Man Tiber crawled over again. “See, Luna?” he said. “Your glow wasn’t missing. It was just waiting for you to share your kindness with the world. The light inside you shines brightest when you help others and believe in yourself.”
Luna spent the rest of the night flying around Glittering Grove, her little light twinkling happily. She learned that her glow wasn’t about being the brightest, but about being kind and helpful. And as she flew, she realized that everyone has a special light inside them, waiting to shine. Now close your eyes, little one, and let your own inner light glow bright as you drift off to sleep.
