Leo loved playing. His hands were always busy with building towers of blocks, drawing elaborate pictures, or racing imaginary cars around the living room.

But tonight, a different kind of excitement bubbled inside him. It was almost bedtime, and he knew it meant stories and cuddles with his teddy bear, Barnaby.

Leo rushed to his room, his mind buzzing with ideas for a magnificent adventure. He grabbed his favorite book, a colourful story about a brave little ladybug, and began to read.

But as he turned the pages, his little sister, Lily, peeked in. Her eyes were wide, filled with anticipation.

Lily had been reading her book too, and wanted Leo to read it to her now. Leo paused, feeling a flicker of impatience.

He imagined a grand adventure in the story, a glorious victory, a big hug from the ladybug. He thought, Lily could read alone. He wanted to read his book and not share it.

But Leo remembered how much Lily loved bedtime stories. He also remembered how much fun he had with her when they shared the stories. He smiled gently, taking a deep breath.

He knew he could finish his ladybug story later, and also read Lily's tale. He knew that Lily's bedtime stories were as enjoyable as his own stories.

With a smile, Leo sat down next to Lily, gently placing the ladybug book beside her book.

He began to read to Lily, his voice soft and soothing. He reminded himself of the adventures he had with his sister, the stories he shared, and all the joys of having a sister.

As the last word of the story faded into the quiet room, Lily snuggled close to Leo, her eyes already half-closed.

Leo smiled at his little sister, and then gently placed his own book onto the bedside table. He understood that taking care of his needs and responsibilities was as important as taking care of his sister’s. Taking some time to care for others brought happiness.

He knew that getting ready for bed wasn't about stopping the fun, but about preparing for a good night's sleep so that he could play even harder tomorrow. Sharing his book with Lily was a wonderful way to prepare for bedtime.

He hugged Barnaby close, whispering a little prayer of thanks for a wonderful day, a peaceful bedtime and a happy tomorrow. Soon, he was drifting off to sleep, dreaming of all the adventures to come.

Leo knew that being responsible and taking time to share with Lily, and preparing for bed, was a special part of his life. He also knew that being patient, and gentle to his sister made for a happy life.
