Finley was a little fish with bright orange scales. He lived in a beautiful coral reef with his mama and papa. Finley loved to explore, but sometimes, exploring felt a little scary. He wanted to be a big fish, brave and strong, and do everything all by himself.
One sunny morning, Finley decided to swim to the Sparkling Shell Garden, a place all the grown-up fish talked about. “I can do this!” he told himself, puffing out his little chest. He swam and swam, past waving sea anemones and grumpy-looking pufferfish. But the Sparkling Shell Garden seemed very far away.
Suddenly, Finley swam right into a strong current! Whoosh! It pulled him further and further from the reef. He tried to swim against it, but it was too strong. Finley started to feel worried. He wiggled and wiggled, but he just kept spinning around.
“Help!” Finley called out, his voice tiny in the big ocean. Just then, he saw Shelly the sea turtle gliding by. Shelly was very old and very wise. “What’s wrong, little one?” she asked kindly.
“I… I tried to swim to the Sparkling Shell Garden, but the current is too strong!” Finley explained, feeling a little embarrassed that he needed help. Shelly smiled. “It’s okay to ask for help, Finley. Even big turtles need a little assistance sometimes!”
Shelly gently nudged Finley with her flipper, and together they swam slowly but surely out of the current. Finley felt so much better with Shelly by his side. They didn’t make it *all* the way to the Sparkling Shell Garden that day, but they found a lovely patch of glowing seaweed instead.
“Thank you, Shelly,” Finley said. “I learned that it’s okay to ask for help when things get tough.” Shelly winked. “That’s right, Finley. And sometimes, having a friend makes the adventure even more fun!”
Finley and Shelly swam back to the reef, where Mama and Papa Fish were waiting. Finley told them all about his adventure, and they gave him a big hug. As Finley snuggled close, he realized that being brave wasn’t about doing everything alone. It was about being brave enough to ask for help and enjoy the journey with friends. Now close your eyes, little one, and dream of sparkling shells and friendly sea turtles.
