A Father's Gift: A Bedtime Story

« Back to Topic

3 min read ・ Age 7

Leo loved snuggling close to his father, Mateo, every night before bed. They shared stories, whispered secrets, and always found time for a special bedtime hug.

One particular night, Leo felt unusually restless. He tossed and turned, his eyes wide open. Mateo, though tired himself, gently soothed his son, whispering stories of faraway lands and friendly stars.

Leo's little heart ached with an unexpected worry. He wanted to share something with his father but he wasn't sure how to express it.

Mateo, sensing his son's unease, asked, "What's on your mind, my little star?" Leo, remembering how Mateo always listened and understood, took a deep breath.

"I...I don't know how to build a castle in the sky like you do," he confessed, his voice barely a whisper.

Mateo smiled gently. "Building castles in the sky isn't about using bricks and mortar, Leo. It's about using your imagination and believing in the things you dream of. Have you ever noticed how the clouds look like mountains and the stars like shining diamonds?"

Leo thought about the clouds, and how they looked different every time he looked at them, and he did notice now how pretty the diamonds in the night sky were, "But you're not really building them, are you?"

Mateo chuckled. "That's exactly right, my boy. You build your castles from your own special thoughts and feelings. It's like building a story inside your heart. And that is very important."

Mateo explained to Leo that the imagination was just as important as a solid foundation; a solid foundation of love and patience between father and son.

He pointed to a small, hand-carved wooden sailboat on Leo's bedside table. "This little sailboat, my star, represents your journey through life. You can sail to many places through your imagination."

"But... it can't fly," Leo whispered.

Mateo smiled warmly and softly replied, "It doesn't have to fly; it can float in your mind's sky, just like a dream. Sometimes the biggest journeys are those in your thoughts and feelings and not in the real world. This is what you need to build your castle of dreams."

Leo, feeling a surge of understanding, snuggled closer to Mateo, his worries melting away like the morning mist. He realized that building castles in the sky wasn't about physical things at all. It was about the strength of their relationship and the power of their shared imagination.

Mateo tucked Leo into bed, whispering, "Sweet dreams, my little builder of castles." And as Leo drifted off to sleep, he knew that his father's love was the strongest foundation for his dreams and adventures. This was the best bedtime story of all.

From that night on, Leo always found new ways to build his castles in the sky, knowing that his imagination, nurtured by his father's love and encouragement, was the greatest tool of all.
