Lily loved to twirl. She twirled in the kitchen while her mama made pancakes, she twirled in the garden with the butterflies, and she even tried to twirl while brushing her teeth! But Lily had never taken a real ballet class. She was a little bit scared.
One sunny afternoon, Lily’s mama told her about Miss Willow’s ballet school. “It’s just around the corner, sweetie,” Mama said. “Lots of little girls and boys learn to dance there.” Lily’s tummy felt fluttery. What if she wasn’t good at ballet? What if she tripped?
That night, Lily couldn’t stop thinking about it. She imagined herself on a big stage, wearing a sparkly tutu. But then she imagined herself falling down! She squeezed her eyes shut. Mama came and sat beside her.
“What’s troubling you, my little star?” Mama asked gently. Lily explained her worries. Mama smiled. “Lily,” she said, “trying something new can be scary, but it’s also wonderful. Even if you wobble, even if you fall, the important thing is to try your best and have fun.”
The next day, Lily and Mama walked to Miss Willow’s ballet school. The room was filled with music and little dancers practicing their steps. Lily felt a little shy, but Miss Willow greeted her with a warm smile. “Welcome, Lily! We’re so happy you’re here.”
The first class was a little wobbly. Lily stumbled a few times, and her arms didn’t quite know where to go. But Miss Willow was very patient. She showed Lily how to point her toes and how to hold her arms like a graceful swan. The other children were kind and encouraging.
Lily practiced and practiced. She didn’t twirl perfectly right away, but she didn’t give up. She remembered what Mama said about having fun. Slowly, she started to feel more confident. She learned to plié and to chassé, and even to do a little jump!
By the end of the class, Lily wasn’t scared anymore. She was proud of herself for trying something new. She twirled all the way home with Mama, feeling light as a feather. She knew she had a lot to learn, but she also knew she could do it.
That night, as Lily drifted off to sleep, she dreamed of dancing on a stage, not worrying about falling, but enjoying every single twirl. She knew that even if she wasn't perfect, she could always shine, just by being herself and trying her best. And that was a very sweet dream indeed.
