Luna the Unicorn Learns to Share Her Magic

« Back to Topic

3 min read ・ Age 8

Luna was a very special unicorn. Her horn didn't just sparkle; it created tiny, floating bubbles of happiness! Each bubble held a little bit of magic – a warmer sunbeam, a sweeter berry, a more colorful flower. But Luna loved her bubbles *so* much, she kept them all to herself. She thought if she shared them, she wouldn’t have enough magic for herself.

She lived in the Whispering Woods, a beautiful place, but even the prettiest flowers seemed a little dull to Luna if she couldn’t make them extra-sparkly with her bubbles. She’d trot past the little woodland creatures – the bunnies, the squirrels, the deer – and carefully keep her horn pointed away, afraid they’d ask for a bubble.

One day, Old Man Willow, the wisest tree in the woods, noticed Luna’s sadness. He wasn’t sad *for* her, but *because* of her. “Little Luna,” he creaked, his leaves rustling like a gentle whisper, “Why do you look so glum when surrounded by such beauty?”

Luna sighed. “It’s just… my bubbles make everything better, but I’m afraid if I share them, I’ll run out of magic.”

Old Man Willow chuckled, a sound like the wind through branches. “Magic isn’t like berries, little one. It doesn’t get smaller when you give it away. In fact, it grows! Try sharing a bubble with Barnaby Bunny. He’s been having a very gloomy day.”

Luna hesitated. Barnaby Bunny was known for being a bit clumsy and often tripped over his own feet. She worried he might pop the bubble! But Old Man Willow’s kind eyes encouraged her. Slowly, Luna approached Barnaby, who was sitting under a fern, looking very sad.

Taking a deep breath, Luna gently blew a small, shimmering bubble towards Barnaby. It landed softly on his nose. Barnaby giggled! The bubble filled him with a burst of joy, and suddenly, he wasn’t thinking about tripping anymore. He started hopping and skipping, feeling lighter than air.

Luna watched, amazed. As Barnaby’s happiness grew, Luna felt a warm glow inside herself. It wasn’t the same glow as creating the bubble, but it was… brighter. She blew another bubble, this time for Rosie Squirrel, who was struggling to gather nuts for the winter. The bubble made the nuts seem easier to find, and Rosie chattered with gratitude.

Soon, Luna was sharing bubbles with everyone in the Whispering Woods. She made the deer’s coats shimmer, helped the birds sing sweeter songs, and even made Old Man Willow’s leaves glow with a golden light. With each bubble she shared, Luna felt her own magic growing stronger, not weaker.

She realized Old Man Willow was right. Sharing her magic didn’t diminish it; it multiplied it! The Whispering Woods had never been so bright, so joyful, so full of happiness. And Luna, the little unicorn who once hoarded her magic, was the happiest of all.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and purple, Luna nestled close to Old Man Willow. “Thank you,” she whispered. “I understand now. Sharing isn’t about having less; it’s about having more – more joy, more friendship, and more magic.”

Old Man Willow rustled his leaves in approval. “Indeed, little Luna. And now, close your eyes and dream sweet dreams, filled with sparkling bubbles and happy friends.” Luna closed her eyes, a tiny bubble of happiness escaping her horn and floating gently into the night sky.
