Tommy was a little blue truck who lived in a busy town. He loved his job! Every day, he zoomed around delivering packages, carrying building materials, and helping anyone who needed it. Tommy prided himself on being the most helpful truck in town. He always said, “I can do it myself!” even when things were tricky.
One sunny morning, Old Man Tiber, the baker, asked Tommy to deliver a very special cake to the town’s annual picnic. It was a giant strawberry cake, covered in fluffy cream and sparkling sugar. “Now Tommy,” Old Man Tiber said with a twinkle in his eye, “this cake is very delicate. Drive slowly and carefully!”
Tommy puffed out his little engine and promised he would. He carefully loaded the cake into his truck bed and started off. But the road to the picnic was bumpier than Tommy remembered! He tried to steer around the potholes, but *bump, bump, bump* – the cake wobbled with every jolt.
“I can do it myself!” Tommy repeated, gripping the steering wheel tightly. He tried to go faster to get over the bumpy part quickly, but that made the cake wobble even *more*. Suddenly, with a sickening slide, a large piece of the strawberry cake tumbled off the back of his truck!
Tommy stopped, his wheels spinning in the dust. He felt terrible. A big tear rolled down his shiny blue hood. He had failed! He couldn’t deliver the cake perfectly. He slumped in his seat, feeling very small and sad.
Just then, Bess, a big, strong tow truck, and Rusty, a cheerful dump truck, drove by. They saw Tommy looking upset. “What’s wrong, Tommy?” Bess asked kindly.
Tommy explained about the cake and how he tried to do everything himself. Rusty listened patiently. When Tommy finished, Rusty said, “Sometimes, even the most helpful trucks need a little help! It’s okay to ask.”
Bess and Rusty quickly came up with a plan. Bess carefully used her winch to steady the cake while Rusty gathered the fallen piece. They worked together, gently placing the piece back on the cake as best they could. It wasn’t perfect, but it was much better!
“Wow,” Tommy said, amazed. “You fixed it! But… I said I could do it myself.”
Bess smiled. “Being helpful doesn’t mean you have to do everything alone. It means working with others and accepting help when you need it.” Rusty added, “And sometimes, asking for help *is* the most helpful thing you can do!”
Together, the three trucks carefully delivered the strawberry cake to the picnic. Everyone was so happy to see it, and they didn’t even notice the small repair. Tommy learned that day that it’s okay to ask for help, and that friends are always there to lend a wheel. From then on, Tommy was still the most helpful truck in town, but he wasn’t afraid to say, “Could you please help me?” when things got tough. And that made him even happier.
