Snowflake was a very happy snowman. He lived in a cozy little garden, and children built him every winter. He had a carrot nose, coal eyes, and a twiggy smile. But Snowflake was a little bit lonely. He wished he had a friend to share the snowy days with.
One day, a little bluebird named Pip landed on Snowflake’s hat. Pip was shivering! “Brrr,” chirped Pip. “It’s so cold, and I can’t find any berries.” Snowflake felt a warm feeling inside, even though he was made of cold snow. He wanted to help.
“Don’t worry, Pip!” Snowflake said, his voice a little crackly. “I can’t *give* you berries, but I can help you find some. I’m tall, so I can see over the bushes!” Pip hopped onto Snowflake’s shoulder, and together they looked around the garden.
They spotted a bush covered in bright red berries! Pip chirped with delight and flew over to enjoy a tasty snack. “Thank you, Snowflake!” Pip sang. “You’re the best snowman ever!”
Just then, a little rabbit hopped by, looking sad. “I’ve lost my favorite carrot!” she cried. Snowflake thought for a moment. He remembered his own carrot nose! He carefully wiggled it loose and offered it to the rabbit.
“Here you go,” Snowflake said. The rabbit’s eyes lit up. “Oh, thank you! You’re so kind!” She nibbled happily on the carrot.
Soon, other little animals came to visit Snowflake. He helped a squirrel find his nuts and showed a sleepy hedgehog a warm place to rest. Snowflake wasn’t lonely anymore! He had lots of friends.
As the sun began to set, Pip snuggled close to Snowflake’s hat. “You know,” Pip chirped, “being helpful is the best feeling in the world.” Snowflake smiled his twiggy smile. He agreed. He learned that even a snowman made of snow could spread warmth and kindness.
Snowflake knew that even if the sun melted him away in the spring, the kindness he shared would live on in the hearts of his friends. And that made him the happiest snowman in the world. Now close your eyes, little one, and dream sweet dreams of snowy adventures and kind friends.
