Lily and Rose were sisters, as different as sunshine and shadow. Lily loved bright colours and crafting, while Rose adored quiet corners and stories. But they had one thing in common: a love for their backyard, especially at bedtime.
One moonlit night, as the stars twinkled above their little house, Lily noticed something shimmering amongst the leaves of the old oak tree. It was a tiny, glittering door, almost hidden by the shadows. Rose was beside her, her eyes wide with curiosity.
‘Look, Rose!’ Lily whispered, her voice hushed with excitement. ‘A secret door! Do you think it leads somewhere magical?’
Rose, ever the cautious one, hesitated. ‘What if it’s dangerous?’ she asked.
Lily, always the bolder one, replied, ‘We can share the adventure! We can go together, and if something’s scary, we’ll help each other.’
Rose smiled, her fear melting away as Lily’s enthusiasm filled the air. They carefully pushed open the tiny door. Inside, a wondrous world unfolded before them. Tiny flowers the colour of amethyst and rubies bloomed, and tiny waterfalls cascaded down mossy rocks.
They saw creatures they’d never seen before—flitting fairies with shimmering wings and playful sprites with mischievous grins. Lily, the artist, wanted to draw them all, but Rose, the story teller, wanted to know their secrets.
Each creature had a treasure to share – a sparkling pebble, a sweet-smelling flower, a whisper of a song. Lily and Rose, instead of trying to hoard these wonderful gifts, placed each precious thing on a small pedestal, a tiny mountain of treasures.
Sharing was the most wonderful secret of all, they realised! They noticed how happy the creatures were when they saw all the gifts they shared. They were happy to just share their gifts, too!
Suddenly, a gentle breeze swept through, and the door vanished. They knew, in their hearts, it was a magical place they had discovered together, not just a magical hidden door.
Back in their backyard, under the watchful eye of the moon, Lily and Rose snuggled together, sharing stories of their wondrous adventure. They both knew this was a friendship built on adventure, trust, and sharing. They knew they could always count on each other in all kinds of stories.
