Lily loved ice cream more than anything in the world! Every Tuesday, her Papa would take her to the little ice cream shop with the rainbow awning. Lily always, *always* got a big scoop of strawberry ice cream with sprinkles. It was the best treat ever.
One sunny Tuesday, Lily and Papa walked to the ice cream shop. Lily bounced with excitement, thinking about her strawberry treat. But when they got there, she saw Barnaby Bear sitting on the steps, looking very sad. Barnaby didn’t have any money for ice cream.
Lily’s tummy rumbled, and she really wanted her ice cream. But then she looked at Barnaby’s sad face. She tugged on Papa’s hand. “Papa,” she said, “Can we… can we get Barnaby an ice cream too?”
Papa smiled. “That’s a very kind thought, Lily-bug.” He ordered two scoops of ice cream – one strawberry with sprinkles for Lily, and a big scoop of blueberry for Barnaby. Barnaby’s face lit up when Papa handed him the cone!
Barnaby took a big bite. “Mmm!” he said. “This is the best blueberry ice cream I’ve ever tasted! Thank you, Lily.” Lily giggled and took a bite of her strawberry ice cream. It tasted even *better* than usual.
Lily and Barnaby sat together, enjoying their ice cream and chatting. They talked about their favorite colors and games. Lily learned that Barnaby loved to build towers with blocks, just like her! Sharing her ice cream hadn’t made her treat any less delicious; it had made her day much sweeter.
As the sun began to set, Lily and Papa said goodbye to Barnaby. Walking home, Lily held Papa’s hand. “Papa,” she said, “Sharing ice cream is even better than eating it all by myself!”
Papa squeezed her hand. “You’re right, Lily-bug. Sharing kindness and happiness makes everything better.” Lily snuggled close to Papa, feeling warm and happy. She knew that even when she was dreaming of strawberry ice cream, she would remember the joy of sharing with a friend.
