Once upon a time, in a sunny green farmyard, lived three little chickens named Pip, Pop, and Penny. Pip was fluffy and yellow, Pop was speckled brown, and Penny had a little white feather on her head. They loved to play all day, pecking for seeds and chasing butterflies.
But tonight was special. Their friend, Henrietta the hen, was feeling very sleepy, but her nest was a mess! Feathers were everywhere, and her favorite blanket was all crumpled. Henrietta sighed, “Oh dear, I’m too tired to tidy up. I just want to sleep!”
Pip, Pop, and Penny looked at each other. They knew Henrietta always took care of them. “We can help!” chirped Pip. “Yes!” agreed Pop. “Let’s make her nest cozy!” added Penny. Pip started fluffing the feathers, carefully arranging them to make a soft pillow.
Pop carefully smoothed out Henrietta’s blanket, making it nice and flat. It was a big blanket for a little chicken, and Pop had to stretch his wings to reach! Penny gathered any stray seeds and put them in a little pile for Henrietta’s breakfast.
They worked together, each doing their part. It wasn’t always easy, but they didn’t give up. Pip almost tripped over a feather, and Pop’s wings got a little tired, but they kept going. They knew helping Henrietta was important.
Finally, the nest was perfect! It was soft, warm, and cozy. Henrietta smiled. “Oh, thank you, my little chickadees!” she clucked happily. “You are the kindest chickens in the whole wide world!”
Henrietta snuggled into her nest, pulled the blanket around her, and closed her eyes. Pip, Pop, and Penny snuggled close to their mama, feeling warm and happy inside. They learned that working together and helping others feels wonderful.
As the stars twinkled in the night sky, the three little chickens drifted off to sleep, dreaming of sunny farmyards and cozy nests. They knew that even the smallest chickens could do big things when they worked as a team. And that’s a very good feeling to have before bedtime.
Now close your eyes, little one, and remember Pip, Pop, and Penny. Just like them, you can be kind and helpful too. Sweet dreams!
