Rosie the Red Car Learns to Share the Road

2 min read ・ Age 4

Rosie was a bright red car, and she loved to zoom! She loved zooming so much, she didn't always notice the other cars around her. "Beep beep!" she'd go, whizzing past everyone. She thought the fastest car was the best car.

One sunny morning, Rosie was on her way to a picnic with her family. She zoomed past Old Man Tiber, a slow, blue truck carrying flowers. “Too slow!” Rosie honked, and Old Man Tiber’s flowers wobbled. She zoomed past Bessie, a yellow school bus full of children waving. “Get out of my way!” she thought, but didn’t say aloud.

Soon, Rosie came to a very busy roundabout. Cars were coming from all directions! Rosie tried to zoom through, but she bumped gently into a green car named Gus. “Oh dear!” said Gus. “It’s hard to get anywhere when everyone tries to go first.”

Rosie felt a little bit bad. She had been so busy trying to be the fastest, she hadn’t been thinking about anyone else. A wise, purple van named Violet saw what happened. “Rosie,” she said kindly, “the road is for everyone. Sharing makes the journey much more pleasant.”

Rosie thought about what Violet said. She took a deep breath and waited her turn at the roundabout. She let Gus go first, then Old Man Tiber, and then Bessie the school bus. She waved to the children on Bessie’s bus, and they waved back!

As Rosie finally drove towards the picnic, she noticed something amazing. Everyone was smiling and waving at each other. The road felt much friendlier than before. Even though she wasn’t the fastest car, she felt happy and warm inside.

When Rosie arrived at the picnic, she told her family all about her adventure. She learned that being kind and sharing the road was much more fun than zooming alone. From that day on, Rosie always remembered to be patient and considerate of others, and she made lots of new friends along the way. And that made every journey a happy one.
