Rosie the Red Car Learns to Share the Road

2 min read ・ Age 5

Rosie was a bright, shiny red car. She loved zooming around town! But Rosie *really* loved having the road all to herself. Whenever she saw another car, a big blue truck or a little yellow taxi, she’d speed up, wanting to be the first to get where she was going.

One sunny morning, Rosie was on her way to deliver a very important package – a birthday cake for Old Man Tiber’s 100th birthday! She zoomed past Benny the Blue Truck, who was carefully carrying a load of flowers. “Slowpoke!” Rosie called out, and Benny’s flowers wobbled.

A little further on, she sped around Tilly the Taxi, who was taking a family to the park. “Hurry up!” Rosie honked, and the family inside Tilly giggled nervously. Rosie didn’t notice. She just wanted to be first.

Suddenly, Rosie came to a complete stop. A big, wobbly pile of building blocks had spilled onto the road! A little boy, Leo, was trying to pick them up, but he was getting very frustrated. Rosie wanted to zoom past, but she remembered how wobbly Benny’s flowers had been and how nervous the family in Tilly’s taxi looked.

Rosie slowly drove closer. “Can I help?” she asked Leo. Leo’s face lit up. “Oh, yes please!” Together, Rosie carefully used her bumper to gently nudge the blocks into a pile, and Leo quickly gathered them into his bucket.

Benny the Blue Truck and Tilly the Taxi arrived. They had seen what happened! Benny used his strong truck bed to hold the bucket of blocks steady, and Tilly offered Leo and his mom a ride to the park. Rosie felt a warm glow inside. It felt much better to help than to rush.

Rosie, Benny, and Tilly all drove to Old Man Tiber’s party together, arriving just in time! Old Man Tiber was delighted with his cake. Rosie realized that sharing the road, being kind, and being patient made the journey much more fun – and it made everyone happier. She learned that being first wasn’t the most important thing after all.

From that day on, Rosie always remembered to share the road and be a kind friend to all the other cars. And every time she saw Benny or Tilly, she’d give them a friendly honk and a wave. Because Rosie knew that the best journeys are the ones you share.
