Benny the Bear loved baseball more than honey. He dreamed of hitting towering home runs and making incredible catches. Today was the big game, and Benny was so excited he could barely tie his cleats.
The game started, and Benny’s team, the Bumblebees, took the field. The first few innings were tough. The other team, the Fireflies, were hitting every ball and scoring lots of runs. Benny struck out his first time at bat, and he felt his excitement start to fade.
Coach Brenda noticed Benny's drooping ears. She patted him on the back and said, "It’s okay, Benny. Baseball is a team sport. We win together, and we learn together. Just try your best, and have fun!"
Benny took a deep breath. Coach Brenda was right. It wasn’t all about him. It was about the team. In the next inning, Benny’s teammate, Finley the Fox, hit a ground ball. It bounced right towards Benny. He scooped it up and threw Finley out at first base! The Bumblebees cheered.
Later, when Benny was up to bat again, he didn’t swing for the fences. He focused on making contact. He hit a little ground ball, but it was enough! While the Fireflies scrambled for the ball, Benny ran as fast as his little bear legs could carry him. He made it to first base just in time!
Even though the Bumblebees didn't win the game, Benny felt great. He learned that trying his best and helping his team were more important than hitting home runs. As he walked home with his teammates, they all chatted excitedly about their favorite plays.
That night, Benny snuggled into his bed, clutching his baseball glove. He dreamed of playing baseball with his friends, working together, and cheering each other on. He knew that even though they didn’t win today, they’d keep practicing and having fun. And that, he realized, was the best part of baseball.
